Reflections Towards a Well-tempered Environment
3 October – 9 November 2014
g39 is delighted to be working with artist and designer Alex Rich on a series of interventions throughout the city that loosely take their inspiration from the maritime experience and legacy that international trading has given to Cardiff. Sometimes iconic, other times whimsical, these interventions allow us to experience the city in new ways as sites for activity.
The thought process, research and planning has taken Alex all over Cardiff in pursuit of resonant sites, and the alternative title of the project for Alex has been Possible Pavillions.
Alex Rich lives and works in Penarth. He studied Visual Communication at Goldsmiths College, London and Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication between 1994-97. Exploring the facets of communication as a tool within our social fabric, manifesting itself in collaborations across disciplines, his recent projects include; Don't Look Back, Ancient & Modern, London; This is serious, Biel, Switzerland; Empty Words, Swiss Institute, New York; Things to Say, Kunsthalle Sankt Gallen, Switzerland; A Recent History of Writing & Drawing, ICA, London.
