Goat Major Projects
14 October – 9 November 2014
Free Mountain is a place to escape the rigours of the city. Free Mountain is open to all as a place of relaxation, contemplation and community activity, with the mountain as a backdrop for a programme of activity in its foothills. It is a place to meet, exchange ideas and explore the idea of a mountain – ecologically, spiritually and as a metaphor.
A programme of activity in the space will be shaped by the public as it becomes a place for shared creativity and expression. Free Mountain is a place where ideas are presented in an informal and inclusive way to an audience of mountaineers looking for an alternative journey through the city.
Goat Major Associates will create a themed programme throughout the festival. Ideas for presentations at Free Mountain are welcomed. Email email@example.com with Free Mountain in the subject line
Co-founded by Richard Higlett and Emma Price as an experimental project space in Canton, Cardiff, Goat Major Associates started with a programme of exhibitions and off-site activity supporting emerging artists and curators. In 2012, for Cardiff Contemporary, it presented The Witching Hour, a survey show of artists from Wales working with sound. As with Free Mountain the space was very much a platform for ideas and GMA sees its role as a facilitator of creativity more than presenter of activity. While still Cardiff based it is looking at associations with international organisations which question the nature and methods for presenting Contemporary Art as part of the everyday experience. Free Mountain brings artist/curator Paul Emmanuel into the fold as associate and co-curator alongside Richard Higlett.
